Our History

In the fall of 1908, Ottawa's E.D. Lowe and T.H. Martin founded Lowe-Martin Company Ltd. What began as a small, specialized printing firm has grown and diversified over the years, all the while maintaining the careful attention to quality and customer service for which the Lowe-Martin name has always been known. Over the first 75 years of its existence, the company developed specialties in bookbinding and the production of library supplies and accounting books.

In 1984 Don Griffin, father of current owners Ward Griffin and Tracy Griffin, purchased the company, becoming President and CEO for the next twelve years. He began an ambitious expansion program. The library and accounting lines of business were phased out, and replaced with offset printing, digital printing and fulfillment.

In 2000 Lowe-Martin has grown through organic sales increases and strategic acquisitions in Ottawa and Toronto. New capabilities were added, including a vigorous e-business development team, magazine printing, specialized warehousing, fulfillment and direct mail.

Lowe-Martin has been recognized as one of Canada's Top 50 Small Businesses and as Canada's Most Environmentally Progressive Printer on several occasions. Our CEO, Ward Griffin, has been recognized as Business Person of the Year in Ottawa and as Print Industry Leader of the Year.
